11" x 14" acrylic on canvas
A painting friend and I went to the Somenos Garry Oak Reserve for some ‘plein air’ painting. It started out as a just-right day, temperature-wise, with some sun and some cloud. Unfortunately, after about an hour and a half, there was a sudden change for the worse and it started to pour rain. I scurried to pack up my gear and not-quite-finished painting, with a promise to paint together again and we each headed home. Of course, about a half hour after I got home, the sun was out again. (I’m actually quite happy for the rain, given the drought conditions ramping up in the Cowichan Valley.) I fiddled just a little more to bring the painting to an end of sorts. It’s hard to know sometimes when to stop but I thought I was getting into the zone of doing too much, so I walked away. Perhaps I’ll revisit it later, after I’ve gotten some ‘distance’ from it but for now, I’m satisfied.
