Decompression

11" x 14" acrylic on canvas with gold leaf edges (SOLD)

I’m calling this experimental acrylic painting, “Decompression”, after first thinking I’d call it “Kaleidoscope Beach” for its somewhat ‘psychedelic’ underpainting. The scene is painted over random areas of transparent magenta, quinacridone gold and cobalt blue, creating some purples and oranges where they mingled. Some of these colours peek through and give the painting a bit of a glow. Not clearly seen here, I added a rough edging of gold leaf, and some reflective patches of gold-gilded sand too. I changed the name because, rather than have people ask me, ‘where is this beach’, I wanted to name it for the feeling it gives me and, hopefully, you. The actual location is Terrace Beach, on the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet, with some artistic license and especially for my colour choices. If you’ve never walked the Wild Pacific Trail, you’ve really missed something great. And when you do, you can walk a little of the trail or a lot, whatever suits you, and you’ll still love it! Oh, and 'decompress'.
