9" x 12" watercolour on 140# Arches cold-press paper
I recently went 'plein air' painting with an artist pal. It was a fabulous day on the beach at Mill Bay on south Vancouver Island. Painting quickly, which is always the case when outdoors with shifting light, it was a pleasure to be there, with birds singing in the trees behind us, seals slapping their flippers just offshore, and a heron swooping in to settle on a nearby piling. There was even a salamander rustling in the shrubs behind us. I missed painting the wildlife in this sketch and took lots of artistic license, but what a glorious day! I’m definitely going back.
