This painting is based on a poem of the same name written by Cowichan Valley poet, Karen Severson. We participated in a “Words and Vision” event organized by the Cowichan Valley Arts Council, where writers first contributed their work and then visual and performing artists selected one written piece to interpret in their medium of choice. This painting respects the intention of the poet by being true to its geographic place. It also reflects the story embedded in the poem, in referencing many of its cited elements.
