Mardi Gras

11" x 9" watercolour on 74# synthetic Yupo paper

I think I went off the deep end with this abstract painting, quite different from landscape painting! But abstracts are quite liberating. I ‘let’ them become, well—whatever develops, adjusting form, value and colour as I go along. There is still a lot of thought that goes into each piece but the process does not start with a set plan; rather, each choice, each brushstroke—only once made—influences what the next choice or decision will be. I enjoy the flow of painting this way.
