Aerial Nomothetic

6" x 6" acrylic on canvas

I had a lot of fun painting and naming this small abstract. I did not have a motif in mind when I started but when I was finished, it revealed an aeronautical theme and what I thought was an aerial perspective. I named it for that and the term ‘nomothetic’, meaning a study of the general, as a view from a height or airplane would give, versus idiographic, a study of the particular. I also liked the sound of the word and so why not?
