5" x 16" acrylic on paddle blade
A childhood friend turned up at one of my open studio days with a paddle in hand and some old photos. It was a wonderful surprise to see her! When we were kids, the two of us, another friend, and one of my sisters would swim together in front of her house at Sproat Lake, with this view to Mount Kiltsa. She asked me to paint the paddle, something I’d never done before, because the location, with its view, means a lot to her—her family no longer owns the property and both parents are gone. We share so many memories of glorious summer days, swimming from beach to beach and dock to dock, all along the lake. Gosh we were fortunate; those were the days of freedom and wonder!
