24" x 18" acrylic on canvas (SOLD)
I painted this motif before but revisited it because the earlier painting was calling me to make some changes. Sometimes there’s an urge to paint exactly what you see but more often a scene needs adjustments to improve what you, as an artist, want it to be, to improve its composition or make it more interesting. I also felt empowered to do a ‘do-over’ because, in fact, this view is now gone—it was ploughed over and a vineyard was planted. The shape of the land remains, still looking out to Quamichan Lake from the area of Stamps Road and surrounded by farmlands, vineyards and residential acreages in the Cowichan Valley.
