10" x 8" watercolour and charcoal on 100# Bienfang acid-free bristol board with vellum finish
This painting is unusual for me being a portrait; I am known more for landscape work. It’s also not of a particular person but more the result of a meditation, and done spontaneously without a preliminary plan or thumbnail. I wondered: What other species beyond humans demonstrates this verb, savour? We savour in so many situations, closing our eyes, going inward, slowing time to really savour without external distraction. And all savouring situations relate to pleasure—a warm breeze across your face, an exquisite meal, the lingering trace of a lover’s touch. To savour is often paired with a quiet, Mona Lisa-like smile, suggesting a journey into a private, intimate place. We should savour more!
