16" x 20" original watercolour on 140# Arches cold-pressed paper
I saw this concept of four horses when I was about 7 years old, browsing a children's art encyclopedia. Look closely and see two horses horizontally, top and bottom, and two vertically, left and right. Hint: the one on the right is standing on its head. Apparently it is an ancient image by an unknown artist. I've never forgotten it and since played with creating a number of versions, the first being a large batik in the 1970s. More recently, I've done two other versions but in watercolour; this one in 2011. I think it also has a batik look, achieved by pouring watercolour pigments across the background with the drawing's outline originally reserved with masking fluid.
