36" x 48" acrylic on stretched canvas
This large acrylic painting is a view of Mt. Prevost. It looks out across Somenos Lake in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. I’ve taken some artistic license because I was not painting the scene onsite or from a photograph. While I see Mt. Provost almost daily, most of this painting's setting depends on my memory and some imagination. My preliminary sketch was done from glimpses (quick head turns) while driving over a local bridge. The bridge crosses a flooded stream and has a long view out to marshlands. Because I painted it from these remembered glimpses, it is not meant as a literal representation of the place, but more of an impression of it.
