11" x 14" watercolour on 300# Arches cold-pressed paper (sold)
I'm intrigued with sundogs—those haloes that surround a bright sun when its light is refracted through ice crystals in the atmosphere. They are most evident when the sun is near the horizon and can happen anywhere, in any season and, for some, warn of bad weather coming. I’ve taken some artistic license with this representation. In composing it, I felt the spectacle required some witness, so adding a dog and its human companion seemed fitting. The mountain is inspired by Mount Baker, which was a fantastic view I had when I lived in Victoria.
