24" x 30" acrylic on canvas
In the Cowichan Valley, with so many large maple trees, we have a stunning show of autumn colour. This was a local view I could not resist painting, even though a bit of artistic license allowed me to remove some inconveniently placed features, such as bins and tables, which, if left in, would detract from the composition. However, some viewers should still recognize it as Maple Bay, looking out from above the swimming beach, while others from a different place might see instead, a view similar to where they live or once visited. I try not to be too literal in my paintings, preferring to leave ‘room’ for different people to discover their own lives, meaning or memories within a painting.
