East to Salt Spring

With this painting, I was keen to explore ‘red’ as a frame and counterpoint to the more atmospheric green landscape of the distance. That distance is Salt Spring Island, immediately offshore of where I live. The shape of Mount Maxwell on the Island is almost iconic in that, where ever you are in the Cowichan Valley, you recognize its contour and know your location relative to it.
